We found a new dining table last night. We absolutely hate the one we have now, so we've known for a long time that our first purchasing priority after the wedding was going to be a new table.
We've been in our place for three years now. When we moved in, we didn't have a table, so my mom offered us her old one since she wanted to get a new one anyway. Her old one had been through hell--three kids and their friends beating the crap out of it over the years. But hey, it was a table. More than we had, for sure.
Anyway, we were looking for something pretty specific. We really like the counter-height tables, and we wanted a dark color. After running around to several furniture stores, we finally found something within our budget. Michael was able to negotiate the price a little bit, so we're happy.
We're getting the table, which has a butterfly leaf, and 8 chairs. We don't have room for 8 chairs, so we're going to have to store the extra ones in my mom's basement until we get a house. But we figured they would be good to have "on hand." Every once in a while, we do have a larger group over to our house, so it would be nice to be able to go over and get the extra chairs in preparation for those gatherings.
Here are a few pictures of the new table and chairs. We might re-upholster the chairs; we're not sure yet. We'll see how they look once we get them into the house. The pictures are from my BlackBerry, so they are not the best--but you get the idea. I'll post more once we have the table.
That last picture shows the little storage cabinet that is under the table. Anything that provides us with a bit of extra storage is alright in my book. It's a pretty big cabinet for being under a table--we're thinking we'll store a couple of our serving pieces under there, or maybe table linens and accessories.
The floor model was a little bit beaten up and dusty, so I'm excited to see the brand new table when it arrives. And the best part? It will be delivered on Tuesday! We don't need to wait for weeks. :)

Great Choice! That looks very close to the one we have. I love the pub style table and chairs.
Our table underneath has storage and a space for 6 wine bottles on each side! SCORE! :)
We have a table very similar to this! We fell in love with it when we saw it. Ours has drawers on two sides of the table. I thought it was a little odd at first (never really stored things in a kitchen table before), but really it's great! We still have to stain ours though...
I hope you love it! :)
I'm jealous!
Just a tip: from the picture, it looks like the chair seats are done in that kinda fuzzy-ish microsuede stuff. Since I know you have a pet, fair warning, those things are hair magnets.
Where did you get this table? I love it!
Dana--The table is from a local furniture store that is only here in our area. But this style of table is pretty popular these days... you should be able to find something similar near you.
