Help a girl out

We are so screwed.

We met with our DJ almost two weeks ago now. At that meeting, we were supposed to be solidifying details. Only problem was that Michael and I? We had nothing solidified. Sure, we were able to give a pretty good idea about what type of music we wanted played at the wedding. And during cocktail and dinner hour. We told him about our first dance, and we gave him the order of introductions for our parents and bridal party. Spelled out names. Gave him phonetic pronunciations.

All of that? Fantastic.

But then there's the other stuff. You know, all of those things you need to pick music for. He gave us suggestions, but most of them were songs that EVERYBODY uses, and we're not really into things that EVERYBODY does.

And here we are, 18 days away from the wedding, and we still have not figured out this crap. So I turn to you, my wonderful readers... we need help.

Here is what we still need:

- Bridal party introduction song
- Our introduction song
- Anniversary dance songs (two of them)
- Bouquet toss song (something for the girls)
- Garter removal song (something sexy and fun)
- Garter toss song (something for the guys)
- Garter replacement song (we're only doing the "garter replacement" if it just so happens that the girl who catches the bouquet knows/is dating the guy who catches the garter)
- Bouquet/garter dance song (we will dance, as will the couple who caught the bouquet/garter--again, only if they happen to be a couple)
- Cake cutting song
- Father/daughter song
- Mother/son song

Thankfully, I think that's it. Wait... THAT'S IT?? Who am I kidding. That is a lot of stuff right there. And since we are horrendously bad at making decisions, this is torture.

A couple of comments on the above:

Intros: We have some ideas for these, but aren't totally sold. Michael likes the song from "The Departed" as a possibility for the bridal party. It's called "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" and is mostly instrumental. An upbeat Irish-sounding song. Even though we're not really Irish (I have a little in me, but not much). For our intro, I had thought of possibly using "All You Need is Love" by The Beatles, but when we met with the DJ, he seemed to be encouraging something with a faster beat. I also thought of "Now That We've Found Love" (think the end of the movie Hitch), but that doesn't seem quite right, either. I love "Jump on it" (used on Fresh Prince), but it might be something that's more fun to play during the dance music than for the intros (Michael can do a mean "Carlton dance," haha). HELP!

Anniversary Dance: Our DJ said he likes to use songs that talk about years passing, etc. He suggested "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers and some other song I've never heard of. To be honest, this isn't a high priority... I'm ready to tell the DJ to use whatever he wants. But if anyone out there has any ideas that might be more unique... let me know. I do like Vanessa Williams' "Oh How the Years Go By" so we might use that as one of them.

Bouquet/Garter Songs: All of these will be pretty short... really they'll just be snippets of songs. We want fun songs.

Cake Cutting: We're just indecisive. There are a lot of cute ones. "The Sweetest Thing" by U2 was my favorite to begin with, but then I was remembering the lyrics and I think he says "I'm losing you" over and over... that doesn't seem appropriate. "Sugar, Sugar" is fun and is a possibility... but may be a little too popular for us. Sarah McLachlan, "Your Love is Better than Ice Cream" is a cute possibility, too. WHY IS THIS SO HARD??

Father/Daughter: I asked my dad and he jokingly suggested, "Highway to Hell." So yeah, no help from him. I've thought of using the classic "My Girl" or Rascal Flatts "My Wish." Any suggestions out there?

Mother/Son: Michael will be dancing with his stepmom, so his situation is kind of the same as mine... nothing too mushy. Anyone have any ideas?

OK, people, I'm counting on you. Come through for me. Please.

Hey Heather!

We've only picked a few of these ourselves, and we are skipping a lot of them! My FI is obsessed with reception music right now, so every other song we hear, he is trying to find a place for it in the reception, lol!

Here are my thoughts:

- Bridal party introduction song:
We're using the theme from Entourage, which is Superhero by Jane's Addiction.

- Our introduction song
We're using Beautiful Day by U2. But, a second was the new Alicia Keys song, No one...it has a great beat and is really sweet.

- Anniversary dance songs (two of them)
We're not doing this, but I like both of the songs you picked. Maybe Endless Love?

- Bouquet toss song (something for the girls)
I'm stumped on this one too.

- Garter removal song (something sexy and fun)
We're not doing this, but I've heard the Mission Impossible theme before and McHammer's Can't Touch This.

- Garter toss song (something for the guys)
We're not doing this...maybe just a popular "guy" song right now...like the beginning or a mix of Kayne West's Stronger? Or Sexy Back?

- Garter replacement song (we're only doing the "garter replacement" if it just so happens that the girl who catches the bouquet knows/is dating the guy who catches the garter)
Yep, not doing this.

- Bouquet/garter dance song (we will dance, as will the couple who caught the bouquet/garter--again, only if they happen to be a couple)
Not this either, but it is a cute idea!

- Cake cutting song
I like Ice Cream and Sugar Sugar.

- Father/daughter song
We're doing Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World combo. It's not too "childhood/little girl"...well, except I had Somewhere Over the Rainbow on repeat during my childhood, lol. Or, what about Beyond the Sea?

- Mother/son song
We're doing 100 Years, Five for Fighting. It isn't overly sweet, but I like the overall message...and the references to family, growing up, etc.

Hope that helps! Good luck with the next 18! :)

Bouquet: Ladies Night (Kool & The Gang)Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper) American Woman (Lenny Kravitz)Sex and the City Theme Song (from the soundtrack) Bad Girls (Donna Summer)Girls, Girls, Girls (Motley Crue)

Garter Removal - the classic "The Stripper" (David Rose Orchestra)

Bouquet: Theme from Rocky :)

A lot of the ideas people posted are great... How about for the anniversary dances you play those couples' wedding songs? That's what we're doing...

Since you guys met at college, maybe play the fight song for your college as an intro song. hehe :) Definitely upbeat and kinda goofy and fun!

As for the others, no idea...sorry :(

For the bouquet toss, I def. recommend Wishin and Hopin' you know of the my best freinds wedding movie..ha or girls just want to have fun. I like the second better, but its used a lot but the first is kinda slower..soo...GOOD LUCK...whatever you do don't use the ice cream song for your cake cutting song, that one is terrible!
But let us know what you ended up choosing for them all!

Anniversay - Michal Buble "Everything" is a great song

Cake- hit me with your best shot

Here you go! I don't know if these are original enough for you :), but I hope this helps.

I am going to be picking out all of my music in the next week or two, so this even helped me out! Thanks! :)

- Bridal party introduction song
I'm stuck right now on the intro's too. I was thinking "Low Rider" or "Green Onions" (this was in the movie "The Sandlot") -- But I'm still not sure if I like the tempo's of these songs.

- Our introduction song
I have no idea on this one... But if you want to be funny - Jimmy Soul "If You Want to be Happy for the Rest of Your Life" or the standard "Love and Marriage" by Frank Sinatra

- Anniversary dance songs (two of them)
If you don't mind country this is a really good one - Clint Black w/ Lisa Hartman Black "When I Said I Do" (I don't know how popular that one is..)

- Bouquet toss song (something for the girls)
Standards - "Girls just wanna have fun" "Man, I feel like a woman". I'm not sure what else for this one.

- Garter removal song (something sexy and fun)
Standard "Let's get it on" .. again, not sure or you might consider Joe Cocker "You can leave your hat on" ?

- Garter toss song (something for the guys)
Gosh I haven't even thought about this one yet..

- Garter replacement song (we're only doing the "garter replacement" if it just so happens that the girl who catches the bouquet knows/is dating the guy who catches the garter)
...

- Bouquet/garter dance song (we will dance, as will the couple who caught the bouquet/garter--again, only if they happen to be a couple)
...

- Cake cutting song
I do like "Suger, Suger" or "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You"

- Father/daughter song
- Mother/son song
I think for these ones, if it's not a close relationship the safe choices are Leanne Womak - "I hope you Dance", Louis Armstrong "What a Wonderful World", IZ - "Somewhere over the rainbow/What a wonderful world" (in the beginning he says 'this one's for gabby' - but your DJ can cut that out or you can even download a free music editor and do it yourself), or Joe Cocker "You are so beautiful to me"

Walk by Pantera - the intro gets me all pumped up!

Garter:
Wild Thing by Ton Loc

Bouquet:
Crap, we didn't pick one

Anniversary:
Through the Years by Kenny Rogers
(I'm not a fan of it, but it's fitting for all the old married couples in FI's family!)

Mother/Son:
What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

We did girls just wanna have fun for the bouquet toss, it was fun and all the girls got really into singing it while waiting for the toss. Just an idea!

For our Anniversary dance song, our DJ used "Remember When" by Alan Jackson. It is a beautiful song.
For the Garter removal song we used "rico suave".

- Father/daughter song - "I loved her First" by Heartland (kind of long)

For cake cutting we used "Two of a kind, workin' on a full house" by Garth Brooks.

Best of luck to you for a beautiful day!

Bridal party introduction song
-how about something but like 'sexy back', or 'let's get it started'?

Garter removal song
-Let's get it on - Marvin Gaye ;-)

Cake cutting song
-How sweet it is - James Taylor

Father/daughter song
-When I'm 64. Don't know who sings that
